Andros Island

When we arrived at Gavrio (the main port of Andros), we were unprepared for such strong winds. Coming out of the boat seemed like an impossible task! It’s like Aeolus hated us.

The regular connections from Rafina port to Andros, Tinos, Mikonos and Naxos made us reach our destination easily in almost two hours choosing Fast Ferries’ routes.

Apart from the port, Gavrio offers limited choices of thing to do in the area.

Batsi though has several things to enjoy. You should definitely visit it!

It is probably the most touristic village of Andros full of restaurants and bars.

You can taste amazing foods (tip: order ”strapatsada”), drink cocktails at the bars and take a walk at the beautiful white streets.

Batsi has well-organized beaches around, suitable for families and couples.

Hora village (or Andros), the capital of the island, is a really interesting place that you should definitely visit.

To be honest, it was our favorite place of the island.

Alex and I had a really good time in Hora, we walked around the village and captured its beauties, we discovered beautiful spots and tasted great seafood at a place called ”Nonas”.

The owner of this restaurant is a fisherman himself, so whatever you will taste is fresh fish of the day.

If you are an adventurer you should drive to Aladino village and visit the Foros Cave, also called Aladino.

Inside Foros stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, hanging rocks and colorful limestone create an impressive phenomenon.

The tour guide explained us everything about the cave and made us feel like we were on a mystery mission.

If you wish to have a long nice walk between trees and butterflies you should visit the village of Apikia.

Many different walking routes are being offered to the nature explorers.

One of them leads you to the little waterfall named Pithara.

Take a deep breath and relax under the trees listening to the sound of the falling water.

To conclude, Andros island is not far from Athens, definitely not the most beautiful destination of Cyclades but worth to visit for a few days.
